Copyright
As part of the process of producing changes in Study Guides for T2, 2008 all authors will be provided with all of the copyright forms that need to be completed.
Copies of similar forms can be found on CQU's copyright website Of particular interest are the forms under the headings “Permission Forms” and “Course Material Preparation through DTLS”.
An explanation of each of the relevant forms follows:
Course material preparation through DTLS
Study materials will not be printed and dispatched to students unless the following forms have been filled in and submitted by the responsible person (usually the course coordinator).
The two types of forms required are
- Copyright Compliance & Permissions Form (Example)
Only one form need be completed that applies to all content for a course. This asserts that all materials have approval for reproduction. The Course Co-ordinator/Course Developer is responsible for this sign off, for each offering of the course. - Copyright Material – Referencing and Details Form (Examples)
This form needs to be completed for any material that is being reproduced under Part VB of our CAL agreement. Examples include passages of text, chapters etc (up to 10%) complete with figures, diagrams and so on reproduced from publications covered by the CAL agreement. Each author will need to make sure that they complete one of these for all material that they have used in their work as described above. It is critical that authors document this information as they go.
When completing this form, if you are using a figure/diagram without any surrounding text (or caption), then this can be considered use of artistic materials. In this case, still under Part VB of our CAL agreement, it does not form part of the 10% rule. Therefore, it is only necessary to complete the Figure number and reference details of the form.
Permission forms
In some cases you may have to ask for permission from the copyright holder. You may need to use
- Standard Letter
This letter can be used to solicit agreement from a copyright holder to allow us to reproduce their work in our materials where it is not automatically covered by the CAL agreement. Some resources have explicit limitations for reproduction that are beyond the purview of the CAL agreement and is usually stipulated on the body of work itself. Alternately, you may wish to reproduce material that is greater than 10% of the original works. - Standard Permission Form (Example)
This form can be submitted along with the letter to the copyright holder for them to complete which authorises us to reproduce their work in our materials.
Once you have received written permission, you must lodge a copy with the Library's Course Resources Online (CRO) team for recordkeeping.
