About OASIS
OASIS is an online assignment submission management system used at CQU. It also supports copy detection. It can be used from any Learning Management System (LMS) and is integrated with a number of CQU systems. Since 2000, OASIS has been used by 26,000+ CQU students to submit assignments in 480+ course offerings.
Technical development of OASIS is performed by CQUni's Information Technology Division. Support for staff using OASIS is provided by CQUUni's Division of Teaching and Learning Services
How to get help
If the resources below don't help, you can either
- email the helpdesk, or
- read and contribute to the Staff Discussion Forum - use the "Problems and suggestions" forum for the current term
Resources
A range of resources, including slidecasts and screencasts, have been created to help show how OASIS can be used.
- An all in one introduction to OASIS
- A set of slides and video of an 80 minute presentation giving a quick introduction to all of the following information. Use this one for a taste, use the following for a more detailed view.
- General introduction to how OASIS works and what students and staff see when using OASIS
- How to configure OASIS so that students and marking staff can use OASIS
- How marking staff can collect and mark assignments.
- How marking staff upload marked assignments back into OASIS and how these marked assignments can be moderated.
- Describes what needs to be done if you only plan to use OASIS to perform copy detection, not as a way to mark and moderate student assignments.
Students
For the last few years, these web pages have been used to help students submit assignments.
Possible improvements
The following is a list of possible improvements or extensions to OASIS that may be useful. Whether or not these improvements get done is dependent on the perceived level of importance and the available development resources.
- Copy detection
- Simple way to search for start of copied text
Not really a problem for most student assignments, but the "online texts" file (the file that contains text of all URLs referenced in student assignments) can be very large. Have some sort of searchable text (e.g. "copied text") at the start of copied information could help staff. They would simple search for that text. - Inclusion of external files.
Currently the copy detection process only checks files submitted by students in the current offering. It is necessary to be able to include files from previous offerings of the course, copies of learning materials (e.g. textbooks) and other files from the web and elsewhere. There needs to be a capability for the coordinator to provide additional, external files that are included in the copy detection process. - Integration with the Academic Misconduct Database (AMD)
A mechanism by which a coordinator can tick a box on a copy detection report and for an incident to be raised in the AMD (how CQU stores and manages plagiarism cases). - Student self check.
Provide students with updates and information from the copy detection process for their assignment so they can perform a type of self-check.
- Simple way to search for start of copied text
- File handling
- More consistent method for handling submission of Word documents
Currently the process to allow submission of Word documents is inconsistent and kludgy.
- More consistent method for handling submission of Word documents
- Marker allocation
- Ability for coordinators to stop auto update of AIC markers.
Normally the marking responsibilities of AIC staff is automatically updated from an AIC system. This is not appropriate for all courses and it can be stopped. However, it has to be done manually in the database. The provision of a checkbox which coordinators can check on a web page would be good.
- Ability for coordinators to stop auto update of AIC markers.
- Quizzes
- Connection between MARKERS_STUDS and ability to see quiz results.
Webfuse quizzes will appear in OASIS with link to various services. But only the coordinator can see the quiz results. A modification to allow the various tutors to see quiz results for their students might be useful. - Inclusion of Bb quizzes.
Bb quizzes are not connected with OASIS. Providing access to that information would be useful for Bb courses.
- Connection between MARKERS_STUDS and ability to see quiz results.
- Collection
- When a mistake is found in a marker's file, after collection has started, uploading a new one will not be automatically included in re-collections because the students folder already has a markers file, OASIS won't write over the top of it.
- Would be good if the markers' CSV file include the students' names to help markers
