OASIS Assignment Configuration
Contents |
Background
This page is part of a large collections of resources to help CQU staff and students use OASIS (an online assignment submission and management system).
This page gives an overview of how to configure assignments in OASIS. Configuration must happen before students can submit and markers collect assignments using OASIS
There are two main steps to configuring OASIS so it is ready for use
- Configure OASIS
- Add a link to the OASIS assessment page for your course
If you have any problems or questions please use either
- email the helpdesk, or
- read and contribute to the Staff Discussion Forum - use the "Problems and suggestions" forum for the current term
Hints and tips
The following provides a list of hints and tips of how to achieve some specific goals which aren't covered in detail in the slidecast
Configure OASIS
The following screencast (33 slides and 23 and a bit minutes of audio) walks through the process of configuring OASIS.
Adding a link to OASIS
Students
The web page students use to submit assignments, check progress on marking and receive returned assignments is specific to the course offering. It's identified by the course (e.g. COIS20025), period (e.g. T2) and year (e.g. 2008).
To help students submit assignments add the following link (modified for your course offering) to your course website.
Where you change the COIS20025, T2, and 2006 to values that match your course offering. This URL can be pasted into any web or Blackboard course page.
Adding a link from a Blackboard course: Chapter 3 of the Blackboard staff manual is titled Adding content (PDF file) and it covers how to add a link to a Blackboard course site.
Staff
Teaching staff access OASIS via Staff MyCQU.
Configuration check list
The following is a brief checklist of steps that need to be taken when configuring OASIS for an assignment
- Has the course profile been published?
OASIS draws on the course profile data to identify which assignments are part of a course, when those assignments are due and what weighting they have. You can't configure OASIS without the course profile being published and the information available to OASIS. - Has the ASA been configured to indicate that you are the course coordinator or developer?
The Academic Staff Allocation (ASA) system is used to specify who can do what with courses. To configure OASIS you have to be the coordinator or develop. ASA data entry is performed by the faculties. - Have you specified what files the students should submit?
Use the "Configure this Assignment" link to specify the number and type of files the students will submit.- Is the textual description for each file meaningful to the students?
- Have you allowed students to submit?
Students cannot submit until you use the "Configure this Assignment" link to say they can. - Have you uploaded the markers' files?
When markers download the student files to mark, a copy of the markers' files will be included in each student submission so that the marker can read or modify them for each student. - Have you allowed the markers to start marking?
Until you use the "Configure this Assignment" link to allow markers to start, they cannot start marking. - Have you specified which students each marker will be marking?
Use the "Marker Allocations" link to specify which students each marker will be marking assignments for.
